How can I use the Information literacy toolkit?

Answer

What is the toolkit

The toolkit is comprised a number of sections for you to import and use in your Canvas courses.

How to request access to the Information Literacy Toolkit

You may request access to the toolkit by filling out this form. Once you have been added to the course, you can

proceed to follow the importing instructions at the bottom of this page.

What you'll find in the Information Literacy Toolkit

  • Modules for WRT100, 188, and 288. The are meant complement the outcomes of the writing department regarding Information Literacy and the use of artificial intelligence tools.

Why they exist

The Library Orientation model is a brief introduction to librarians, the library website, and how to access

resources from off campus. We strongly encourage every faculty member to import this module into all courses.

The Generative AI Content is designed to address big picture concepts and ideas, as well as communicate how to ethically and thoughtfully utilize AI tools if allowed in class.

The Research content is meant to guide a student through the basic steps of the research process;

including, exploring a topic, locating information, evaluating that information, and properly maintaining

citations as necessary.

Each section contains multiple mini-modules consisting of:

1. A short conceptual introduction

2. A short video

3. A related accountability measure often in the form of an online quiz, discussion board, or worksheet

How can you use them?

These modules reside in Canvas for simple integration into your course. Modules are meant to be editable and adaptable. They can stand alone as assignments to bolster information literacy skills, or be incorporated into library classroom sessions. They can also be used actively as graded assignments, or passively, to reinforce knowledge acquired previously. Instructors can opt to set point values for assessments.

Be sure to go through all of the modules to see what fits your class; you can pick and choose which modules  you would like to import based on your students’ needs and the specific course. Consider beginning with the library orientation module, which provides your students with a short introduction to using the library’s website and asking for help.
